Emmanuel Petit insists he would not trade Man Utd forward for Arsenal star Bukayo Saka

Emmanuel Petit believes Marcus Rashford can compete for the Ballon d’Or award at Old Trafford but insists he would not swap Arsenal star Bukayo Saka for the Manchester United forward.

Rashford is enjoying his best-ever season at the Theatre of Dreams and scored his 28th goal of the season to help United beat Newcastle in Sunday’s EFL Cup final.

The 25-year-old has been arguably the most in-form player on the planet since the World Cup, scoring 17 goals in 19 appearances since returning from Qatar.

Petit says Rashford looks a ‘completely different player’ to the one that struggled at Manchester United last season and claims on current form he can challenge for Ballon d’Or awards.

But the France World Cup winner would still not swap Saka for the Manchester United star, tipping the fellow England international to captain Arsenal one day.

Saka has made more than 150 appearances for Arsenal since breaking into the first-team in 2019, emerging as one of the key players in the Gunners’ Premier League title push this season.

Asked who he favours out of Rashford and Saka, Petit told Premier League Odds: ‘I would love to have them both on my team.

‘Marcus Rashford was so miserable last season and he was losing his confidence, but now he is a completely different player and back to perfect standards. He is also very clinical.

‘Saka, however, is very important for Arsenal and does great things on the pitch.

‘I am a massive fan of Saka and the way he plays – I think he will be the captain of Arsenal in the years to come.

‘Both players are so important and clinical for their clubs. I think they could compete for the Ballon d’Or, if they keep playing the way they are.

‘I love the pair of them but as a Gunner I would stick with Bukayo Saka.’

Manchester United, fresh from their EFL Cup triumph, face West Ham in the FA Cup on Wednesday night while Premier League leaders Arsenal host Everton.
