Manchester United receives several loan offers for disgraced striker Mason Greenwood

Manchester Untied have received loan offers for Mason Greenwood

Attempted rape and assault charges against the 21-year-old England international were dropped last month after The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material came to light.

Greenwood originally faced one count of attempted rape, one count of controlling and coercive behaviour and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, all against the same complainant.

The player was first held in January of last year over allegations relating to a young woman, after images and videos were posted online.

Greenwood has not played for United since and the club are currently holding an internal investigation to determine his future.

Erik ten Hag is understood to have held face-to-face talks with the striker last month for the first time, while Greenwood is also said to have met several of his teammates in secret.

Ten Hag called Greenwood for a conversation with a source claiming the Dutchman asked him ‘how he was feeling physically and mentally’.

The former Ajax coach was reportedly ‘pleased the charges had been dropped’ and ‘thought it was the right thing to do’ to reach out to Greenwood, who had been previously communicating with the club via a third party.

Still, Greenwood is not available for selection at present with members of the women’s side said to be harbouring reservations about the prospect of seeing him reintegrated.

According to The Telegraph, United have fielded offers from two Turkish clubs but will not determine Greenwood’s future until the international investigation is complete.

In Greenwood’s absence, United have relied on January signing Wout Weghorts who had earned immediate cult hero status as Old Trafford, despite only scoring once since his loan move from Burnley, via Besiktas.

‘He was one of the best players on the pitch’ said Ten Hag of Weghorst, following last night’s FA Cup win over West Ham. ‘He was involved. He was in front when he got up there with Harry to force the own goal from the opponent.’

Asked if just a goal is missing in Weghorst’s game, Ten Hag replied: ‘That will come. I have experienced that with so many players. I refer to Rashford at the start of the season, he was not scoring in every game but I know in my experience it will come once he is more settled down. He is now a lot of games with us but not in a long period. But the routines will be there and when he has the first goal, more will come.’
